I bought a 1977 CJ-5 that basically amounts to a rolling motor from a friend for $1000. At first glance it was a disaster but perfect for playing in the mud without worrying about tearing anything up. This CJ-5 has the 304 V8 that runs like a new motor. The tub has significant damage and patch work and is almost rusted off the chassis. It has been repainted twice from its original color and has no decals left. After cleaning the mud out of it I found that the original carpet was still there and intact with snaps and all. Also, it has the Levis seats (not in good shape). Since this Jeep had the 304 and the Levis seats I suspected that it could have possibly been a Renegade. Only one way to find out,I opened the rear diff and low and behold it has the Trac-lock limited slip. I am 99% certain that I bought a perfectly running Renegade for $1000. It needs a new tub but I'm perfectly happy with it as a mud toy for now. Rest assured it will get a frame up restoration when I save up the money.
Larry's Comment: Great deal on that Renegade CJ5 Casey! Looks like a fun toy with great potential. Keep us posted on future restorations.
