Willys-Overland Jeep Photos (1940-1953)
The Willys (Jeep) came to life in the throws of World War II. Willys-Overland (along with Ford) ultimately won the contract to supply these vehicles to the war effort. In 1953 Kaiser Industries purchased Willys-Overland and took control of the Willys (Jeep). The American Motors Corporation (AMC) took control of the Jeep brand which by this time was firmly established, and quite successful. However, AMC later was having financial difficulty with its car line (not Jeep) and eventually sold controlling interest to Chrysler in 1987.
