As far as I'm concerned, the top 5 Jeeps were the CJ-5, CJ-6, CJ-3B, CJ-3A and the CJ-2A. I also like the M-38, don't care for the MB or GP. The trucks and wagons were so so, but a Napco equipped GMC would be my preference.
The decline of Jeeps started approximately 1965 with that silly Tuxedo Park thing. The last Jeep was 1971. Now I realize AMC and now Chrysler make a small 4X4 vehicle with the name Jeep on it, but we all know they are not Jeeps.
I own a stock '62 CJ-5 equipped with a Ramsey winch, the optional bench seat, and steel top. It is not equipped with mags or a sound system or other such foolishness. It is strictly a farm vehicle. It is the most useful vehicle ever built for this purpose.
Far better than a quad, or Gator, or Polaris could ever hope to be.
Larry's Comment: I'm with you on this one Jerry. The trend in the auto industry to add more unnecessary garbage to their vehicles has created a nightmare for those of us who appreciate the simple beauty of a machine that just does what it is supposed to do.
However, I have to say that so far Jeep has been able to put out a pretty good product and still maintain most of the basic functionality. Just too many bells and whistles added for the "soft" crowd in my humble opinion.
