Commander? Real Jeep or not?

I purchased an '07 Commander for my teenage son with the thought that there is plenty of room and it is more secure than the JK (Wrangler) I drive.
I was surprised at how nice the ride is. Immediately I installed a 2" lift to get away from the grocery-getter image, and there was an instant change.
Still need to get rid of the mailman tires but the looks are more aggressive now with slightly better clearance, and it still rides well.
Now the 4x4 system isn't quite my cup of tea but it seems capable. I agree it is essentially a Grand Cherokee, but more refined. My son thinks it has the exotic look of a Land Rover. If I squint I can see that.
All in all I like it, but just not as much as mine. Completely different uses.
