I have previously owned a Jeep Comanche(MJ); Loved that little pickup. It would go anywhere I could drive it.
After getting beat up a bit , I started modifying it to be the ultimate rock crawler. By that you can guess it was a 4x4. After lifting it and converting the suspension to coil sprung instead of leafs, and adding the mud tires it rode smooth. It never had a problem with the transmission or engine, which is something I can't say about my newer cars.
At first it was my daily driver/grocery getter and then I started using it as a 4x4 rock rig. I have since retired it as such because I now have two kiddies and a wife who love going with me (but not enough room for everyone in the Comanche).
If they ever produced another I would be one of the first people to put in an order for one or maybe two if I can slide that by the wife.
