I currently own a silver 4x4 Jeep Commander. I have installed slightly larger but still all-terrain tires on it, since it is used a lot in town and on the highway.
For driving around the city it is like any other SUV. The ride is comfortable, road and wind noise is minimal, and it has responsive handling.
A few times a month I take it into the mountains here in Colorado along established trails and some favorite paths of my own. For being off-road it almost feels too much like it doesn't belong there. It can handle its share of beatings, but it could stand to be higher and equipped with more metal to absorb hits instead of the impact-resistant plastic that is so popular now.
Overall however, I feel like it's been a great investment and allows me to do everything I want to.
