Need Smoother Engine

I have this short body 1968 Willy, and it has a Toyota 1C Diesel Engine.

It behaves like a Tractor. It takes off in 3rd gear without any stress. What other lightweight engines with low noise can you all suggest for my Jeep?

I need, Power Steering as well as Disc Brakes. The Body and Chassis is still solid and sturdy. I use it only for short trips to local shopping and to the Golf Course.

Okay, let us analyze.
You have a power-train some of us would love to have, but we can't have because of government.
You want something smoother and quieter?

Question number one is; would you keep what you have if it was quiet?

Yes? The simplest, cheapest fix is insulation. The bonnet comes off so you don't have to stand on your head to glue as much insulation as there is room for. Insulate both sides of the firewall and the rest of the engine room. Because the sound goes down the driveline, insulating the underside of the body will deaden sound. An insulating wrap of the entire exhaust will quiet that and a proper muffler should keep exhaust sound as low as a gas-powered vehicle.

It's a Jeep. You will spend your old age with the constant ringing in your ears caused by Tinnitus because of the wind blowing in your face when you have the windscreen down or the doors and sides off. That is a far bigger problem than the masculine rattle of a diesel.
Quieter engine/transmission

I agree with Shatto, any engine you put in will require a lot of work and modification. And all engine/transmission combinations require some compromise. You really do have an ideal set up for what you use it for and I don't believe there is a better set up for off road. So insulate and enjoy..,
