I prefer newer Jeeps, in particular TJ's, the Jeep Liberty and later model YJ's.
Specifically I prefer 2006 Jeep TJ's because this was the last model year for this particular body style and part configuration, and as a result the most refined. This particular model year is the most supported Jeep in terms of available aftermarket parts. This is beneficial for the consumer in terms of customization, having many suppliers, and therefore competitive pricing on almost every part which may need replacement during the driving life of the vehicle.
I also prefer this model of Jeep because it retains more manual components, and relies less on electric, automatic convenience features (such as automatic windows, automatic sway/ track bar disengage, etc), resulting in a more reliable and sturdy vehicle with fewer things to go wrong.
Almost all of the problems of the earlier TJ's were resolved for this final model year (speedometer problems, starter alternator and battery problems, etc.) The quality of welded joints and fasteners was also improved for the 2006 Jeep TJ.
